Here's a preview of one of the projects that I'm working on at the moment. I've been playing the 'Cello Suites and a few other Bach pieces on electric bass since I was at University. In recent years, I've gradually adapted the pieces for four string bass, using my '73 Precision Bass. More recently I learnt to use Sibelius (publishing software) so that I can present professional scores to students and friends. I also plan to record all these pieces and then promote it as a book and CD package. These are far more than transposed and "tabed" copies of the originals. My aim has been to find the best way to exploit the Fender bass without losing touch with the spirit of the original works. I feel that some of the guitar transcriptions of these pieces that I've heard, feature obvious and sometimes clumsy harmonic accompaniment. large part of the appeal of these works is the implication, as opposed to the statement, of the underlying harmony. These transcriptions are not aimed at the novice or non-reader, but I've decided to include tabulature as a way of clarifying my voicings, fingerings, and my use of false and open string harmonics.
