Here's a few shots of the humbucker that I made for one of my seven string basses.  The cover is machined from a piece of mahogany, and it features two rows of alnico magnets.  The Bobbins are made with fibre glass circuit board material.  This allows me to earth them for shielding purposes.  The cover was stained black and then sprayed with satin polyurathane.  The pickup was designed to replace the EMG DC-45 that I had initially installed in the bass.  The cover and the bobbins have been carefully drilled so that the magnets line up directly with the strings.  In fact the coil closest to the bridge is actually slightly longer as the strings are wider apart here.  I'm very happy with the results.  The sound is much sweeter in the treble, and the response from the low B string is a much better tonal match to the other strings.

The third shot is, of course, how the pickup looks as installed.
